Meet Mary
Mary is an adventurous and very social retired nurse living with
Alzheimer's. Nursing and caregiving are in Mary's blood, and
she spent her entire career serving others. Now, despite her
diagnosis of Alzheimer's, she is still helping others.
After getting the diagnosis, her family was doing all they could
for her, but it became clear to them that she needed care and
stimulation beyond what they could offer. Her family didn't know
enough about this situation to do it on their own.
They began working with a care manager who recommended Johnson
Adult Day Program. Mary's family has said that JADP has been
amazing.
For people like Mary, life is far from over; they still need to
have fun and interact with others on a consistent basis. Mary
enjoys the activities but also considers it her "job" to share her
compassion and care for her fellow JADP participants.
Physical exercise, cognitive stimulation and social engagement
are important facets of a healthy lifestyle for everyone, including
people with memory loss. JADP offers one of the most comprehensive
day programs for older adults. Over the last year and a half,
Mary's family has been welcomed into the caring arms of the JADP
Team, and Mary can't imagine a week without JADP and its
life-enriching activities.
Mary enjoys the activities and socializing and her family
appreciates the experience of the staff. They have all been through
the Alzheimer's Association's Learning Institute. The medical staff
are RNs and CNAs and the activity staff are accredited through the
National Adult Day Services Association.
Mary often participates in a unique part of the JADP program:
Day Trips. Day Trips offer participants the opportunity to
take part in activities in The community, including having lunch in
a restaurant each trip.
Mary goes on up to three day trips a week and looks forward to
each and every one with enthusiasm and excitement. Through the
program, she has taken trips to the mountains to see the fall
colors, to Breckenridge to look at the snow sculptures and tours of
every local museum or point of interest you can imagine. Mary also
enjoys the activities and socializing at the center.
"This place is different.
You can just feel it, and you just know it in your heart. The
compassion and support at JADP are overflowing. It is a huge weight
off our shoulders knowing that she is well cared for at
JADP." Gordon and Kelli (Mary's son and daughter-in-law)
